Licence and escrow
FiveM escrow and Keymaster explained
What escrow means for FiveM assets, how an asset is tied to your server key, and which files you can still edit.
2 min read ·
Almost every paid FiveM asset runs through the Cfx.re escrow system. For you as a server owner, that means you buy a license for your account and get encrypted files that only start on your servers.
What escrow does
When a creator uploads an asset, Cfx.re encrypts the files the creator wants to protect. Your server decrypts them on start, but only if its license key belongs to the account that owns the asset. If someone copies the files to another server, the resource won't start there.
For creators like us, that is why we can spend weeks on a large MLO at all. Without it, a single leak wipes out the work.
Keymaster and the portal
Asset management used to live in Keymaster. Today it runs through the Cfx.re portal, where you find two things:
- Server keys: the license keys for your servers
- Granted Assets: everything you bought, ready to download
You download updates from the same place. We also announce them on Discord.
What you can edit
The creator decides which files stay open. They are listed under escrow_ignore in fxmanifest.lua. Config files and textures are typical. With our port MLO, for example, you swap logos and flags through the open .ytd files.
Leave encrypted files alone. The server detects any change and refuses to load the resource.
Account and server key
The asset belongs to the Cfx.re account you bought it with. If your server runs on a teammate's key, buy with their account or create the key on your own. Otherwise the server reports "You lack the required entitlement".
In short
- Buy with the account that owns your server key.
- Download the asset under "Granted Assets".
- Only edit files listed in
escrow_ignore.
We answer questions on Discord, before you buy as well.
